This little guy followed my roomie home, and I have come to absolutely love him. He follows me around everywhere for scratches, sleeps right beside me, and the whole time I'm home we have been side by side. It's only been two weeks, but I have been in an insanely deep depression and making him happy brightens my day like I haven't I haven't felt in a long time.

He was our neighbors cat, but since his favorite person (5 years together, since he was 2 months old) moved away, he has run away every chance he got (presumably searching for his friend, as he was never an outdoor cat). They said we could take him in since he would follow us and it has been freezing, by the time he got to us he was already scraped from living outdoors.

Now my huge issue - he sits at our front door meowing to leave again, but it's way too cold outside. I've spent insane amounts of money for things to keep him entertained and places to crawl and hide, set up “catios” by several windows, I play with him at least 15 minutes every day, and he is well fed and spoiled with love. But he still is depressed, looking for his favorite person. I feel like I'm holding this poor cat hostage, like he would be happier astray in the cold weather rather than my

got out once and just hid under a car, shaking, until I dragged him inside because it was 20f. I've never had a cat before. What do I do??? I just want this sweet boy to be happy. I can't bring his person back, I try everything I can think of but I still feel like I make him miserable. I have some mental health issues, so any input as to whether I'm overreacting or holding onto this baby when I shouldn't would be greatly appreciated.

steph_nh 8 days ago I think the best thing you can do for him is keep him inside and just love him up as much as possible. It honestly sounds like you both need each other. 8.0k Reply Share

shekennoogets OP. 8 days ago I hope it ends up being enough! When he meows at the door for so long my heart breaks and I wonder if I'm able to keep him happy Reply Share 3.0k

FionnagainFeisty Paws · 8 days ago My cat meows at the basement door for hours sometimes. It's because that's the only door in the whole house that's 1. Closed 2. Has no cat door and 3. He's been through. Only times he's been through the front door is to go to the vet (which he is not a fan of). Sometimes cats just want to go places they aren't allowed, and will about it. It doesn't mean they don't like and appreciate you. Bub does miss his old person, but likes plenty too. You did a good thing.

Quiet-Bed-3029 · 8 days ago I'm so glad this baby has you. I'm sure he's grieving, and it'll just take him time to miss that person. He doesn't understand why they haven't come back, and that isn't your fault. You aren't holding him hostage. You're saving his life. Reply Share 1.9k ..

nocakeforme 90 - 8 days ago Give him as much time as he needs. Some adult cats take longer to adjust to changes compared to kittens. He misses his previous human and there's nothing anyone can do to make kitty understand that they're not coming back for him. It's only been 2 weeks and you've already gone above and beyond to love the cat. Like I said, give him as much time as he needs. Keep up the good work. 345 Reply Share

appalachiancascadian · 8 days ago Wow... Terrible people to abandon their cat. I would say for now you are doing everything you can. Just be there for him and show him love. Reply Share 842 ...

shekennoogets OP 8 days ago I try not to judge, I have no idea why they had to leave without him but also don't know how they did it. He's such a sweetheart! 561 Reply Share
